Her PhD thesis covers a comparative empirical and regulatory analysis of Turkish and Russian banks between 1999 and 2010 in their respective post-crisis period under the title “Banking Regulation in Turkey and Russia: An Economic Analysis”.

Short bio:

Meltem was a student in the European Doctorate in Law and Economics program from October 2008 until January 2013. She obtained her BSc. in Management from Bilkent University, Ankara in 2004. She was awarded with the Jean Monnet Scholarship from the Representation of the European Commission in Turkey in the field of State Aid and Competition Policy and completed her MSc. at Erasmus School of Economics with specialization in economics of markets, organization and policy in 2005. The title of her master’s thesis is “Vertical Integration and Incentives for Cost-reducing R&D”. Following her graduation, she worked as an assistant specialist in the banking sector before pursuing her PhD studies.

Short bio:

Vaia holds a Bachelor of Laws from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2001-2006) and a European Master in Law and Economics from the Erasmus University Rotterdam and the University of Hamburg (2006-2007). During her bachelor studies she served as co-editor in the legal journal ‘Efarmoges Dimosiou Dikaiou’ (Applied Public Law Journal). In Spring 2007, she was a junior visiting scholar at the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley. Her PhD research in Erasmus University Rotterdam (2008-2012) was embedded in the program ‘Behavioral Approaches to Contract and Tort: Relevance for Policymaking’. In 2009 she received the Microsoft Research Award for Scholarship on Law and Economics awarded by the Berkeley Program in Law and Economics and ALACDE.

Short bio:

Małgorzata Sadowska is a Senior Regulatory Analyst at the Commission for Energy Regulation in Ireland, Electricity Networks team. Her main focus is connection and grid access policy, price regulation and electricity tariffs, and implementation of EU network codes in Ireland.

Prior to joining the CER, she was a Research Fellow at the European University Institute, where she worked on the law and economics of energy regulation and competition policy, and coordinated the activities of the Energy Law & Policy Area at the Florence School of Regulation, Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies. Before that, Malgorzata was a Researcher at the Tilburg Law and Economics Centre within a project involving capacity remuneration mechanisms. During her studies she also completed a stage at the European Commission’s DG Competition (Energy Mergers Unit), and worked in leading law firms in Brussels and Cologne.

She is the author and editor of well-received books and articles on EU energy regulation and competition enforcement, and Member of the Energy Law Ireland Committee and the International Scientific Committee for the International Conferences on the European Energy Markets.

Małgorzata holds a PhD in Law and Economics (EDLE, 2013) and Master degrees in Law (University of Gdańsk, 2006) and European Studies (University of Hamburg, 2008)

Current position:

Since 2011 Claudio works with a team of economists and computer scientists to develop software solutions for the efficient scheduling of court hearings addressed to Italian judges and the Italian Ministry of Justice.


Short bio:

Claudio was a graduate student within the EDLE program from October 2009 until December 2013. During his doctoral studies he studied the governance of common pool resources, and specialized in New Institutional Economics, Economic History and Applied Econometrics. In 2012 he was visiting scholar at Harvard Law School and the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management, University of California Santa Barbara.He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Law from Bocconi University (2003-2008), and a European Master in Law and Economics from the University of Manchester and the University of Bologna (2008-2009).
