For Doctoral Students

The tri-national doctorate programme "European Doctorate in Law and Economics" (EDLE) of the University of Hamburg receives the DAAD sponsorship for "International Doctoral Studies in Germany" (IPID). EDLE was chosen from more than 80 applications and is the only programme offered by a law faculty.
The DAAD’s sponsorship of up to 300,000 Euro once more strengthens the University of Hamburg as a centre for international and interdisciplinary doctorate studies. Already in 2010 EDLE was elected as Erasmus Mundus Excellence Programme by the European Commission (volume 6 million Euro).
Apart from the University of Hamburg the universities of Bologna and Rotterdam are participating partners of EDLE. The Indian Indira Ghandi Institute of Development Research, Mumbai, is associated member. The structured education at the three partner universities and in Mumbai leads within three years to the doctoral degree. EDLE yearly grants up to 15 scholarships for internationally orientated dissertations on the economic analysis of law. Presently, 26 doctorate candidates from 11 countries are sponsored. The participation of the University of Hamburg is coordinated by Jun. Prof. Patrick C. Leyens at the Institute of Law and Economics.
